Training and Development in Ethnographic Methods

Every team that works on an ethnographic project with BPA is trained to be able to “do it themselves,” when the project is over. Additionally, for those organizations that want stand alone training, we offer the following:

Introductory Workshop in Using Ethnographic Techniques

This one to three hour story-filled workshop is intended to introduce the concepts and benefits of doing team-based ethnographic research.

Listening to Learn

This one day experiential workshop is designed to prepare you to conduct in-depth, in-context, ethnographic interviews.  You will learn how to put aside your own assumptions and develop the ability to walk in another’s shoes.

Believing is Seeing

This one day immersion experience is designed to sharpen the observational skills that inspire creative thinking.  Participants learn how to go beyond just “hanging out” to develop insights and implications based on their observations.

Team Ethnography In-Depth Training

For those who wish to “try on” ethnographic methods while doing real work, this three day workshop is designed to take a team through the entire process:
Day 1: Get ready work – designing the guides, surfacing assumptions, interview and observation skills
Day 2: Fieldwork experience
Day 3: Analysis, meaning making, getting to the insights and the “so what”
